Mind Mapping

There are many different programs and ways to use a mind map to be implemented into a lesson. One of the programs I will use for mind mapping is mindmeister. I will implement mindmeister to my fourth-grade class to illustrate how to brainstorm for our writing assignment. The ISTE for teachers that I would use is 5a to use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner difference and needs. I would demonstrate how to use mindmeister has a group activity to the students then they will need to create their own mind mapping for their independent writing. As I demonstrate the class how to create a mind mapping, we will be collaborating our ideas on our narrative writing. The mind mapping is the same as the brainstorming they do on paper. They will write their topic on the center circle of their mind mapping, then give their three subtopics followed by their reasons supporting the subtopics. Once they have their brainstorming done, they will begin their writing. Some of the disadvantages that students may encounter is having difficulties maneuvering through the program at first. It is easy was they know all the different things it has to create the mind mapping but also the teacher needs to know how to use it. The advantages of using mindmeister is that it could help in any sort of content not just brainstorming for writing. This will help them to in the future in their education because more assignments are done on the computer. The disadvantages of this program could be getting the kids to learn how to use it. There will be some students that might need additional help than others. Also, some kids would need to complete their work in class because they might not have internet at home.
