Thematic Unit
The thematic unit that I developed is for students to create a story book about one of their favorite animals referencing their habitat and their adaptations. The subjects that would be included in this thematic unit is starting with a science lesson followed by social studies and last ELAR. It will start with students learning what habitat and adaptation is and different animals will be discussed during our discussions and learning. For social studies, students will be learning about how to read the maps and what it consists of like distinguishing the continents, countries, states, and cities. The students will need to research where their animal is from and located in a map where they will be putting that information in their storybook. Last the students will be learning what an informational text is for them to create their storybook. After our lesson, viewing a book as a reference and watching a video about informational text the students will get an understanding about it. To me the way I organized the thematic unit it will be helpful for students to have a better understanding about animals. Lessons like this could be an advantage because it will get students to get the bigger picture about the topic they are learning and learn other concepts that students might not look at it like that. For instance, in my thematic lesson they learned three different things or will be a review for them in learning something new. The disadvantage about using a thematic unit is that it doesn’t provide enough detail in this format.
